We are proud to announce that we have been asked by the Royal Library of the Netherlands whether they may archive our website for future research. This with the aim of preserving a piece of the zeitgeist by adding our site to their specially chosen selection. This makes us part of the documented Dutch literary history, something we are very proud of!
As the national library, the Koninklijke Bibliotheek is legally responsible for the collection, description and preservation of publications, electronic or otherwise, published in the Netherlands. With the rise of valuable information on websites that does not appear in analogue form, they have decided to create an archive of these valuable pages. This fine selection of websites will be preserved for future generations so that they can take a look at and learn from the current zeitgeist.
The fact that we have been chosen to be in the archive is very special. There are over 10 million websites in the Netherlands, of which only 22,160 are kept by the Royal Library. This is less than 0.002 percent of all websites in the Netherlands. The various archive documents all have a specific theme that gives context to current Dutch culture. The archive versions of our website can be consulted within the building of the Royal Library one year after archiving. For us that will be around August 2023. At the moment, however, you can already consult the web collection in the reading rooms as annual pass holders. As soon as this is legally possible, they will also be made available through the Royal Library's website.
